Cyber-crime Notice - Cyber-Crime is on the increase, and you should be on the look-out for it to ensure that you do not become a victim. The Council for Licensed Conveyancers website contains a ‘Security’ webpage which provides members of the public with information about known scams in which the identity of a legitimate law firm or lawyer has been used for what are assumed to be criminal purposes (https://www.clc-uk.org/avoid-scams-when-buying-home/ ).

You should be aware of the possibility a fraudster might deliberately misrepresent themselves as a member of, or as someone acting on behalf of, or working with, Amity Law, for criminal purposes.

Such scams normally originate by email. Often the email will either promise the recipient a share of a large sum of money in return for paying a modest sum up front or request personal or financial information about the recipient or their bank account in order that money can be paid to them.

In an attempt to give legitimacy or respectability to the scam, sometimes the email will direct the recipient to a false website that is a clone of a legitimate website.

If you receive an email purporting to come from Amity Law or a member of staff or if you are directed to a website which purports to be Amity’s website, and you have doubts or concerns about the authenticity of the email or website, please either contact the member of staff you normally deal with or email customerexperience@amitylaw.co.uk
